Making A Difference!
Saturday Oct. 30th 192 volunteers are gathering at Auburn United Methodist in the Annex Building to prepare for a full day of service. Volunteers will gather at 7:30 AM for breakfast, a devotional, and then will launch across 14 various sites in Lee and Macon County. This event is called Make A Difference Day and is being sponsored through Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM).
What will the volunteers do? Hammering, shingling, painting, digging, …a variety of necessary activities!
Three families will be having their homes reroofed, several are receiving insulation and having floors and windows repaired, one is completing an exterior painting job. Most of the families we are serving are elderly widowed women. Two of the men we are helping are wheelchair bound. The service provides real help to these wonderful and humble neighbors in our community. In addition to the homes, we are working on a church in Tuskegee that will be eventually used as a community center. Finally, some volunteers will help in a new thrift store ARM has started in Opelika called The Buildmore Store. This store sells appliances, building supply materials, and tools and deeply discounted prices. Above all-people are giving of themselves in a way that empowers and affects our community.
The volunteers will work most of the day and wrap up around 4:00 PM or till they complete their project. Our volunteers are coming from several different places! Auburn United Methodist Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Beula United Methodist Church, Campus Church, Tuskegee Wesley Foundation, and Auburn Wesley Foundation. We are excited about the enthusiasm and team spirit of all these groups.
(The national Make A Difference Day sponsored through USA Magazine was Saturday Oct. 23. We moved it due to the Auburn/LSU game and traffic)
