Lead Up! Youth Mission Leadership Practicum

A special event for high school students! – Coming Feb. 23-25 2018

Lead Up

Lead Up

To change the world, we need to be intentionally developing and shaping our next generation of leaders. ARM is partnering with Deaconess Susan Hunt  for a time of leadership development and “visioneering”.  ARM’s leadership expo, Lead Up!, will be held  February 23-25 2017 in Tuskegee, AL. This is designed for high school students who desire to take their passion and ideas and translate them into action. See below for more information about bringing your youth. There are some selection criteria and registration closes after 25 registrants.

What is it? This is a weekend designed specifically for juniors and seniors in high school who have a passion to learn the principles of how to start a ministry or movement in their own community or within their youth group.

How Do I Register and Pay My Registration Fee?

The registration process is simple! But, we only have space for the first 25 complete registrations. Online registration will be available in fall 2017! You’ll need to register, have 1 recommendation form completed by a reference on your behalf, and pay your $75 registration fee.

What Will You Learn?

  • Identify your passion
  • Develop a set of core values
  • Organize a community mission and vision
  • Develop an action plan and recruit volunteers
  • Plus more!

We will use ARM’s context and explore how we started and have grown through the years. The students will then be guided to use their own vision and passion around any area of need they see in their community – or beyond!

Who Should Attend?

LeadUp is designed for Juniors and Seniors in High School and college students with a passion to serve and leadership potential.

Why only Juniors, Seniors, and college students? These students will be supervised by ARM staff, ARM board members, and college students so we’re looking for mature students. There’s also a potential for these students to be offered a 1-2 week summer internship to serve alongside the ARM camp counselors this summer either in construction or day camp ministry.

What is the basic schedule?

  • 6pm-8pm – Registration and welcome
  • Introduction and first workshop

  • Work Shops and Project Sessions

  • Morning session and project displays/depart by noon

Who is coming?

The workshop leaders will be Rev. Jeremy Steele from Christ UMC, Jeremy will be an ordained elder and had developed curriculum’s in starting missional movements and turning them into action. Deaconess Susan Hunt serves as the director of Missions and Advocacy at the Conference level. Other presenters and workshop leaders include ARM Director Lisa Pierce and other members of the ARM staff.

The sessions will also include time for youth to work out ideas. It is part presentation and part application/project development. We will guide them through this process and when they leave they will have the foundation for a workable idea.

$75  This covers housing, meals on Saturday with a Sunday breakfast, and resource materials.

We’ll meet at the United Methodist parsonage in Tuskegee, which has bunk beds and showers. ARM hosts our mission camps and interns in this parsonage during the summer.

ARM abides by the conference safe sanctuaries policy and will make all the provisions for child safety as a minor. The weekend is designed around dreaming and planning so mostly indoors with some recreational activities programmed in for team and group building.
