We are grateful to Trinity UMC Opelika who showed up in full force on Saturday equipped with chainsaws, wheel barrows, and hearts/hands ready to work. We split into several groups cutting down limbs, stacking debris at the road, and helping families clear their homes.

Also this week a team of college students from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) arrived for their Spring Break to work. They also have been serving with families this week.

This will be a long process because it was not declared a National Disaster which means FEMA is not coming in. Families without insurance will face the toughest battle. If you would like to bring a group to continue with debris removal and clean up, please let us know.

We are still getting the information but several homes were hit by an F2 tornado in Salem, Alabama on Saturday February 28th. Salem is located off of HW 280 between Auburn/Opelika and Phenix City, Alabama. College students from We the Church, Auburn United Methodist Church, the Red Cross, and several other ministries are currently working to clear the areas and assess damage.

Ways you can help:

1) Throughout the next two weeks we will be sending people out for debris removal. If you have chain saws please bring them.

2) Families need personal hygiene type items, you can collect these and take them to the East Alabama Food Bank and let them know it is for tornado victims.

Click on the link for a list of these items: Personal hygiene list
