Service Opportunities
Day Camp
ABOUT THE KIDS: Sonshine Day Camp is offered in Livingston and Tuskegee. It hosts
30-40 children ranging in age from 5-12 years.
DAY CAMP ACTIVITIES: Throughout the week, the children study Bible stories,
participate in team building games, and receive educational assistance with reading and
writing. All activities correspond with the day camp theme, which is developed by ARM
staff.
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES: You will work with the ARM staff to bring the Bible to life
for the children. Before your arrival, your group will develop lessons, skits, games, songs,
and arts and crafts that will coincide with the chosen day camp theme. The theme is
divided between the seven summer weeks and your team will be given the topic for your
week, which you should use to plan your day camp activities. You will also get to provide
the daily snacks which may also be a craft project.
Construction
TYPES OF PROJECTS: Projects include but are not limited to roofing, dry wall repair,
minor plumbing, carpentry (floors, porches, ramps) and depend on the skills of your
volunteers. You will be informed of your project(s) upon arrival and possibly the week
prior to arrival. Large wheelchair ramps and roofs are pretty costly. We add an extra
$300/project for these types of projects if you are able to do them and desire to work on
these.
CREW SIZE: Each group will be divided into crews of 4-7. You may bring as many
crews as space will allow. Please remember, YOU MUST bring at least one construction
knowledgeable person per crew. Our staff will deliver materials but cannot stay on
site with your group.
EQUIPMENT: A list will be in the mail once you have confirmed your dates. Bringing as
many tools as possible is encouraged. You will need one vehicle for each crew of 4-7
people that you bring.
