Making  A Difference!

Saturday Oct. 27thth 50-60 volunteers (and hopefully more) are gathering at Washington Chapel AME in Tuskegee to prepare for a full day of service. Volunteers will gather at 7:30 AM for breakfast, a devotional, and then will launch across 9 various sites in Lee and Macon County. This event is called Make A Difference Day and is being sponsored through Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM) and USA Magazine. Our lead partners are the Tuskegee Wesley Foundation and Macon County Ministerial Association.

What will the volunteers do? Hammering, shingling, painting, digging,…a variety of very needed repairs and service! Volunteers can also work at community based centers including the new food pantry, Tuskegee Methodist Church, and the community garden. We will also have relational type events which include a cookout for children with I Am My Brother’s Keeper (IAMBK), serving with the nursing home and other events.

Most of the families we are serving through home repair are elderly, widowed, women.  Children who are part of IAMBK receive free tutoring two nights per week and other fun activities. The service provides valuable help to these wonderful and humble neighbors in our community. Above all, people are giving of themselves in a way that empowers and positively affects our community.

The volunteers will work most of the day and wrap up around 4:00 PM or till they complete their family’s home.  Our volunteers are coming from several different places! Local churches, the Tuskegee Wesley Foundation, college groups from Huntingdon, Troy University, and much more!

There will be an information meeting for the community and for churches and organizations to select a project they would like to serve with on Sunday October 7th beginning at 4:00 PM at the Methodist Parsonage across from Tuskegee Public School. The address is 402 S. Main Street.
