We are so grateful to have had a wonderful two days of celebration and service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The celebration began with a community wide worship service on Sunday, January 17th. The service was held at Tuskegee First United Methodist Church, where around 100 people came out to worship together and celebrate MLK’s service. Amazing worship was brought both by the Nebraska Missionary Baptist Church and the Gospel Volunteers. Rev. John Brooks joined us, and gave his rendition of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s sermon on “Being a Good Neighbor”, and about the Good Samaritan. Rev. Brooks did an amazing job of presenting MLK’s great preaching while also applying the sermon to our lives today. A big thank you to all the people who participating in making this worship service such a meaningful event in our community!

We also had an amazing community service day #MLKDAY with many local teams participating in home repair on Monday, January 18th! We had 11 work teams from different organizations through Tuskegee University, Auburn University and local churches around the area. Groups repaired 8 homes for families in the Lee and Macon Co. area, held a children’s Bible club called MLKKids, served at the Tuskegee Food pantry and worked on the Tuskegee Mission Hub. We started the day off at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church where the deacons  provided the volunteers with breakfast and they then heard an awesome devotion by Pastor Harold Lusk. The teams then went to their separate home repair sites while a team from Tuskegee Wesley helped run a kids event at Greenwood Missionary. All of the teams worked very hard in honor of MLK. A huge thank you to Greenwood Missionary Baptist, ARM @ AU, Tuskegee Wesley, Tuskegee Bioethics, Tuskegee Sophomore Class, Tuskegee CVF, Bradford’s Chapel, AUMC College and every volunteer who participated and helped make this day a “day on, not a day off” in our communities! Mark your calendar for next year!
