Extending Christ’s Love With ARM |
Repair-Restore-Revitalize |
|
|
Thanks for your paint brushes of kindness, Auburn Wesley Foundation! |
|
|
Love never fails! I remember singing the song, “Pass it On”. “It only takes a spark to get a fire burning…”. It only takes a little elbow grease and a smile for a neighbor’s hope to reignite.
God’s love is like that. It does not take much, just a small spark with a ton of intention and people easily experience the deep love of Jesus. We were encouraged as college groups and neighboring churches committed themselves to serving others. Check out their accomplishments! |
March 27 The Power of Serving! |
March 27: Beta Alpha Psi-not just for counting. You might think that if you have a service organization of Accounting Majors, they might just start counting the paint brushes or reconciling our expenditures. Maybe they did… and we did not see it. What we did see was the results of them scraping loose paint and priming the ARM Guest House. Slowly, the historic building is transforming into a beautiful white display of charm and grace. The ARM Guest house continues to enhance its appearance, which is important for the Main Street community in Tuskegee.
The ARM Guest House was formerly the United Methodist Parsonage for Tuskegee United Methodist Church. Before its use as a parsonage, it was the initial site of the Tuskegee Women’s College, before relocating to Montgomery, and is known today as Huntingdon College |

Super Mission Saturday- Thanks AU Wesley Foundation! |

The body of Christ is all about partnerships and we are grateful to maintain our long time connection with the Auburn Wesley Foundation. For years, they select two Saturdays per semester to host home repair serve days sending several students into the community for repairs and community revitalization.
Their hospitality is unmatched! Under the leadership of Tony Jeck and Paige Holoday, they provide a hearty and scrumptious breakfast, with lots of coffee, I might add. Missioners are sent out with sack lunches provided from the lunch bar. Add to that a devotional reflection and it sets up the perfect day to serve!
PS- Did you know that ARM started out of the Auburn Wesley Foundation? Their missional hearts and countless mission trips to serve in home repair inspired the work and ministry of ARM! | |

March 28: Volunteer Teams Repairing and Revitalizing |
Last Saturday was another push into our communities and neighborhoods to extend Jesus’ love! Student groups from Auburn and a new partner with Society Hill Global Methodist Church (GMC) joined us for repairs and more.
– Phillip’s Home: ARM@AU served with the Philipps family, making final touch-ups to complete their home. After replacing six windows, it was time to add the trim casing on the outside and inside to make them look nice and cover up exposed cracks. Mr. Phillips is a Navy veteran and is working to get back on his feet after some health issues. Their grandchildren attend SonShine Kids Day Camp each summer. The family, to include their adult daughter and grandchildren, is so thankful for the love, care, and grace they’ve received.
– Bennett’s Home: ARM@AU students repaired metal roof screws warped from time while also installing new metal roof boots. Water-damaged drywall in the ceiling is being replaced and painted. Ms. Bennet is almost finished!
– Debra’s Home: Praise God! Her home is complete! Thanks so much to our friends at Society Hill Global Methodist Church for building a new structure for her outbuilding that started leaking. Earlier, her roof was replaced. She is now completely warm, safe, and dry and the work is beautiful. She gave thanks to God for this work and community. |

| Welcome Society Hill, Global Methodist Church! |
With big hearts and tons of skills, these guys did a great job serving with with our neighbor, Debra. What a blessing to rebuild this storage building for her. It was leaking and the floor was rotting out. With little storage inside her home, this building helps her keep her items safe. What a joy to have our new friends from Society Hill GMC in Macon County come out to serve in Tuskegee! |

Crew leaders make the day go smoother! We are grateful for our next group of trained crew leaders! These servant leaders steward a crew of 4-7 home repair volunteers. Crew leaders visit their assigned home prior to the service day meeting the home owner and looking at the work they will complete. On the home repair serve day, they help us with our safety guidelines, support our interactions with the family, and keep repairs flowing smoothly. We are grateful to the volunteers who completed the training and can help us get more teams engaged and increasing the number of families we can serve.

| CURATED RESOURCES JUST FOR YOU-Housing in the News |
Did you know? Housing in Alabama
Across Alabama, there is a shortage of affordable and available rental homes for extremely low-income households, whose incomes are at or below the poverty guideline or 30% of their area median income. Many of these households are severely cost-burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing. Severely cost-burdened poor households are more likely than other renters to sacrifice other necessities like healthy food and healthcare to pay the rent, and to experience unstable housing situations like evictions.
Repair and renovation help ease this huge gap in Alabama and across our nation. |

|
Help us reach more compassionate individuals by forwarding this newsletter to friends and family. Together, we can create a movement to repair homes and restore hope in Alabama! There is a housing crisis. Too many people are without safe and affordable homes. Renovating and repairing homes is highly cost effective. Homes stay with a family and people age with dignity in place. Help us grow the movement! |
