This past week we were joined by incoming Auburn freshmen with the Honors College K(no)w Poverty Week of Service. This week-long experience before classes begin introduces students to the complex realities of poverty and prepares them to serve in meaningful ways throughout their college years. Over the course of the week, the students participated in learning activities like a poverty simulation and got hands-on experience serving with several local organizations. Lisa shared a lecture with the students on what it means to be a self-less servant. Later in the week, 50 students served with our home repair ministry with 3 families in Lee and Macon counties. They painted, installed flooring, finished a wheelchair ramp, rebuilt walls and floors, and built relationships with the families as they served. Overall, we were so encouraged and honored to be a part of this enriching program and we are thankful for our partnership with the Auburn University Honors College.
