To all our Day Camp Sponsors,

Thank you again for being a sponsor of Sonshine Kids Day Camp! Our summer children’s ministries are an essential part of our vision of strengthening families,  and we could not have done it without your support! With the support of your sponsorship, we were able to live into our mission of developing spiritual leaders with 62 children in Macon and Sumter counties as well as the youth mission teams and college intern counselors who served with the kids throughout the summer. We hope you enjoyed receiving a special gift from one of the day campers over the summer and felt how much of an impact you have made on the lives of all the children.

The theme for this summer at day camp was God’s Masterpiece. We focused on the idea that God is creative and created all of us to be creative too. This meant that we got to do lots of singing, dance parties, and a lot of artwork! Our scripture for the summer was Ephesians 2:10, which proclaims that we are created by God in Christ Jesus to do good work. We felt that it was important to not only promote the kids’ creativity, but to show them that their work was good. We did this by hanging up their art, encouraging parents to do the same, and reminding them that their work is good because God designed us to be creative. Our theme also reminded the children of their immeasurable worth as God’s masterpieces and sought to inspire them to be all who God had created them to be!

God provided in a mighty way this summer with 142 day camp sponsors that included parents of the campers, churches, organizations, families, Sunday school classes, and former volunteers and mission teams. Through your generosity and faithfulness, God provided finances to support three full-time counselors in both the Tuskegee and Livingston day camps. These counselors were able to provide the children with a day camp space at a local school, lots of materials for all those arts and crafts projects, daily snacks, and the opportunity to experience a fun and educational field trip at the end of the summer! Again, none of this would be possible without your support.

This year the Tuskegee day camp visited the Atlanta Children’s Museum for their summer field trip. The kids enjoyed playing in the sandbox, pretending to run a grocery store, and learning how food goes from farm to table. The Livingston day camp enjoyed a day at the Mississippi Children’s Museum in Jackson, MS, where the children got to be creative in areas like math and reading. Several parent chaperones and members of our youth mission teams also got to join in on the field trip fun!

In addition to serving the kids, your day camp sponsorship allowed us to provide leadership experience for both our day camp counselor interns and the youth mission teams that came to serve. The intern teams were made up of college students from Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Haiti, and right here in Alabama. In Livingston, we had Kayli, Celina, and Trent, and in Tuskegee we had Emma, Allex, and Nathan. They were responsible for coordinating with the teams that came each week and helping to guide the youth as they implemented lesson plans that they created prior to their arrival. Your sponsorship works on many levels to help fulfill our mission to discover, develop, and deploy spiritual leaders as disciples of Christ!

Thank you again for allowing us to work on your behalf and experience the ways in which God is knocking on the doors of the hearts of children, middle and high school students, and college students. You have made possible a meaningful summer for so many people and we look forward to continuing that work next summer and for many more summers to come!
