Summer is not winding down but it is transitioning with students back in school. Summer with ARM’s mission teams are a special highlight. Summer creates so many opportunities to share God’s goodness and Good News! Mission teams from seven churches joined us this summer in Tuskegee. They provided critical home repairs to three families diligently working to make homes warm, safe, and dry all the while extending Christ’s love. Some of the youth provided meaningful and engaging activities with elementary age children through an all summer long children’s camp, SonShine Kids Day Camp. Body Body! Not just a hip youth game. More, ways we centered our ministry into being the Body of Christ. Paul writes in various letters about working together in love as Jesus’ body. Taking the bulk of our examples from 1 Corinthians 12:12-26, we discussed how we are all valuable members of Christ’s body and important to his work of grace, compassion, justice, and mercy. No matter how big or seemingly insignificant we all play a vital part in witnessing to the love of Jesus and serving others in his name. Our summer staff and members of the mission teams prepared morning and evening devotions with this in mind. Finally, the ARM summer staff developed and coordinated evening events with the theme of Body Body. What a great opportunity to witness to God’s love!
Despite heat and rain this summer, the youth missioners battle through serving and getting to know three of our neighbors in East Alabama. Check out some of the repair highlights.
Ms. Fre loves life and helps her neighbors. She is an activities director at a retirement center. What a joy to bless her. Removed eight old windows and installed new windows. Youth loved the part where you get to bust them out! We are grateful to our friend Sam who guided the teams with this all important and large endeavor. Ms. Freda is a joy and so incredibly helpful and encouraging to the mission teams.
Mr. Amos has a deep love for Tuskegee, the Tuskegee Airmen, and Tuskegee’s history. We began a massive re-roofing project for his home. Several additions over many years made this roof more complex due to a lot of extra carpentry needs. Furthermore, water damaged ceiling and wall board had to be removed and re-installed. It’s exciting seeing the progress these teams made and the relationships they built!
Ms. Penny is a servant hearted neighbor who is always wanting to help others, Penny is a joy and blessing to the mission teams. When her back two rooms caved in, she expressed more concern for the youth than the floors. The good news is this team was well equipped to quickly rebuild the floors and now Ms. Penny feels so much more safe in her home.
