Dark clouds peppered the sky, threatening rain. Undeterred, a few hundred members from the Auburn/Opelika community gathered together at Cornerstone Church, prepared to share love through service. ARM is incredibly grateful for the partnership and collaboration with Way2Serve and the biannual My Jerusalem days of service.
Pouring out into the community, volunteers provided home repair ministry to 24 families. Our families included Ms. Rowe and Mr. Rogers. At Ms. Rowe’s home, the team completed the final touches, repairing her living room floor. Support beams underneath the home cracked, making the floor sag and unsafe. Now fully braced and with new finish flooring, it is not only safe and secure, but it’s beautiful! Ms. Rowe, who lives alone and grew up in the home her granddaddy built, praises Jesus for this good work.
Meanwhile, at Mr. Roger’s home in Tuskegee, volunteers put the final touches on his roof, securing in the ridge vent and completing the shingling of his newly built porch roof. His home was built in 1958. He grew up in Tuskegee before moving away and then returning to care for his mother. Over time, the shingles stopped repelling water and the home began leaking. On the inside of his home, extensive damage occurred from rain. It caused the ceiling sheetrock to collapse onto the floor.
The good news: volunteers repaired the roof and are now focusing on replacing insulation and drywall. They will give it a fresh coat of paint, making it beautiful, dry, and safe! Mr. Roger’s story is incredibly interesting. His dad was a Tuskegee Airman, and Mr. Rogers can tell the story of Tuskegee and the Airmen like no other! With a strong work ethic, he works two jobs in Montgomery. Furthermore, he loves God deeply and is committed to his church.
We are grateful for the church partners and students who came out to give time and energy to loving our neighbors. Without fanfare or the need to be recognized, they are just doing the great work with grace, quietness, and compassion.
Thanks so much to all who served on October 3, 2026, for My Jerusalem. By the way, although the morning started dark with clouds, they parted for the day, creating some blue sky and a little sun, giving us space to work and serve. Praise God!
