Ms. Turke and ARM@AU serving during the My Jerusalem service day

So many people were in the hands and feet of Christ this past Saturday as they came together with My Jerusalem to participate in home repair and relational ministry. We visited teams working in Tuskegee, Notasulga, Auburn, Opelika, and Eclectic and spent a little time with each family seeing the work that they were doing. We repaired homes on 9 different sites with 9 different homeowners.

The teams consisted of college students, church groups and even a few children who all came together for a day of service. The work ranged from roofing at Ms. Sanford’s house, painting with the Simmons’, to repairing damaged ceilings at Ms. Turk’s! All of the home owners were so grateful for the work being done on their houses and the opportunity they had to meet and work with the volunteers.

We weatherized a porch with Ms. Ethel who, when asked what these home repairs has meant to her declared, “It has changed my ENTIRE life!” We also served at Ms. Baker’s home where we painted the sides of her house. At the home of Ms. Baker, Joe led a touching devotion, and at the end, Ms. Baker led us in prayer.

Matt, our Communications Assistant really enjoyed fellowshipping with the homeowners. He says, <em>What a prayer warrior for Jesus Ms. Pinkie is. As I got to know her, her love for the Lord was so apparent and she told me how she liked to pray with and for the teams that were helping her. She prayed so powerfully for me before I left and it lifted my spirit so high. I was so thankful for Ms Pinkies heart for God. It was such an awesome day.

The homeowners and volunteers really made the day worthwhile. Mr. Simmons shared not only his gratitude for us coming to serve, but how important he views serving as well. He said that his wife and he make an effort to serve the homeless every week as well as cook meals for their church family and some Tuskegee students. Mr. Simmons says, “It is important that while pursuing a relationship with God that you serve and love others as well as believing in God to answer and listen to your prayers.” As always, the faith and compassion of the homeowners inspired those serving more than they would have hoped or imagined and it was so cool to see God moving in the hearts of those doing his work.

It was such a blessing to be a blessing to others through serving! Watch how Ms. Patt has been blessed by the My Jerusalem service day:IMG_4302

We are so grateful to all of the volunteers and the homeowners who served with us. Special thanks to The Way2Serve Ministry for allowing us to be apart of such an amazing time of ministry!!!!
