Today begins our campaign “Sweet Homes Alabama” aka No More Shacks. Today, I will be setting up and joined by some wonderful guests. Ryan Martin from Liberty UMC, Susan Hunt from the Alabama West Florida (AWF) Conference staff, friends from Opelika FUMC, and Mr. Thor Burke and his family. Thor and crew are staying overnight! So, stay tuned for what God is going to do as we get once again equipped to continue serving families through home repair.

Would you like to help us spread the word? Below is a template you can use to post on FB page or a blog spot. It has the links to donate and why we are doing this-every little bit will help! And of course donate :)) Thank you again in advance and may God’s peace be with you!

Dear

I have friends staying in a shack and they really want to get out! These folks are crazy passionate about helping families with low incomes repair their homes and extend the love of Jesus. I really like what they do so I am helping Alabama Rural Ministry  (ARM) with their Sweet Homes for Alabama  aka No More Shacks Campaign.

On October 16, Lisa Pierce, will begin living in a “shack’ on the front lawn of Auburn Wesley Foundation at 131 S. Gay (across from Tiger Rags).  We have two shacks set up. The director, Lisa Pierce, stays in one for the entire duration of the event which is 6-7 days. The other shack is where other volunteers stay for four or more hours to help Lisa. Their goal is to raise $55,000 to free the “shack” participants.  Those living in the shack do so to spread awareness about poverty and substandard housing that effects our elderly and disabled Alabama population and to raise funds for home repair in our area.

ARM provides home repair assistance to underserved families including repairs to roofing, flooring, walls porches, and building handicap accessible features and more.  Most families are elderly, have a disability and live on a fixed income.  The families partner alongside work teams as they are able.  ARM also sponsored children’s day camps.  The primary function of ARM as a youth mission camp is hosting work teams from Alabama and various states across the country.  Camps are held mainly during the summer while local community volunteer teams work year round in the areas.

I am helping ARM because I BELIEVE in its ministry.  As we work to raise funds to help families with home repair, I hope you will join in with a donation.  You can give online at , www.arm-al.org.

If you are in downtown Auburn, stop by the “shack” and meet Lisa and come see me!  Your prayers in support of their efforts to be a part of the solution to ending poverty will be greatly appreciated.

You can also see their video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoJ-ecixz0M and follow the action on the Alabama Rural Ministry Facebook Page.

Thank you for your support of this ministry and God bless you and your family.

Thanks again! Lisa
