I awoke to the patter of rain on the shack roof. Most of the time, rain is comforting and soothing. Yet, for so many, extreme feelings of anxiety emerge as they wonder what kind of damage this next rain brings.

Last night was not as cold, the low of 56 was quite comfortable. This was also because of some extra weatherization. I stuffed plastic Walmart bags into the crevices of the shack and where my windows are put some makeshift shutters into the spaces. This trapped a little more heat and the night was relatively comfortable.

It was so good having Ms. Walker join us at the Shack on Thursday! She shared a wealth of stories with us, baked several cakes she shared and talked about what it means to serve! “I just loved having those volunteers! They meant so much to me!”

We do have the guest shack ready and four college students with the AU Wesley Foundation stayed in it last night. They experienced the rain, the cold, the noise and I believe related to what homeowners experience.

For today, thanks to Mayor Fuller from Opelika for coming out to sit with us! He is an incredible visionary and has a heart for affordable housing and seeing people get needed repairs. We discussed the credit challenges people with local incomes have and how hard that makes it for them to purchase a home or finance their own repairs. City of Opelika is hiring resource personnel to help rebuild credit.

I am grateful to the number of board members, pastors, and friends who have come to visit.

Looking forward to our Box City event tonight and being with our ARM@AU students and AU Wesley Foundation students.

Thanks so much as we have lessons from the shack!- lisa
