As Saturday and Day 4 closed, we have a long way to go to get to $200,000. Many ask me about the need which I am hesitant to tell you because it may seem overwhelming. But here goes, in addition to Ms. Walker, we have 13 homes in progress, 10 more ready to start, and 19 on a list to review. For those who call and email us daily, we have to tell them we can’t take any more referrals, regretfully. This is just in East Alabama. I keep thinking, it does not have to be like this. It should not be like this…

Nearly 1/3 of our neighbors in Alabama live on very limited and fixed incomes. Either retired or children, they have little ability to earn beyond social security or retirement. Imagine receiving $800-$1000 a month. After paying bills, buying food, and other necessities, there may only be a few dollars left, and some months nothing. So when a slow leak eventually rots a floor and cabinets, and the estimate is $600-$1000 to repair, what do you do? That is one month’s income.

That is why your financial gift is so valuable. It is why your time is precious. It is why your heart of compassion is the difference between hope and despair.

What happens when we get out of the shack? We get back to rallying our churches, businesses, families and individuals to get out to one of these homeowners like Ms. Walker who we have shared about and serve so that at the end of the day, their home is warm, safe, and dry. So that their heart is filled with hope and joy. We use your resources and compassionate volunteers to get after it.

That is where we are. I pray we can be faithful to our neighbors. I pray we can be faithful to Jesus and I pray we see transformation in our communities.

Blessings this day- signing off from the shack and hopeful
