Robyn Blakely who attends the University of Alabama, served as one of our day camp coordinators this past summer. Continue reading to hear how working with the day camp made an impact on her life this summer. We loved having her as a part of our team!

This summer was incredibly filling for me spiritually and emotionally. I learned a lot about myself and about serving children. I served 25 kids this summer as a day camp counselor, and I quickly learned that serving kids meant serving parents. Throughout the summer, I learned how important discipline and structure were for the sake of future learning and from the perspective of the parents. Being able to communicate with the parents about the kids’ needs in these areas really helped me build a relationship with families and not their children. I loved seeing the children’s smiling faces each morning, and I loved playing with them and seeing them happy but the best part of every day was seeing them learn. The parents and I watched them grow spiritually and academically, and I could not have asked for a larger blessing than achieving that outcome. Through my experience with ARM I was able to grow as a counselor, Christian, and future mother. I am so grateful for the families that I was able to be a part of for a short time, and I think about them every day. -Robyn Blakely, Day Camp Coordinator 2015
